SSTV over IRLP
On September 4th 2001 VK3JDA (David) & VK3JED (Tony) tested SSTV over IRLP.
On Tuesday night Tony and my self made contact on VK3RSE and move to VK3ROU for voice and settled in for the night.
First thing was to test the software on simplex (145.625) making two way SSTV contact.
The results were:
VK3JED -> VK3JDA (direct), P4
VK3JDA -> VK3JED (direct), P5
The difference here being that Tony was using 10W, and I was using 25W
Now for the big one would it work over IRLP?
Setting up the two nodes #630 & #639 on simplex we tried our luck at SSTV over IRLP.
Tony and I where successfully with the tests via IRLP with all pictures sent being a P5, regardless of which station sent them.
We where joined by VK3YE Peter and VK3ZTV Alen who just happen to hear SSTV transmissions on the local SSTV frequency. Alen used the night to try and fine turn his software while Peter was able to join in and send pictures as well.
The pictures sent via IRLP had a extra skew in them. We suspect this is because the signal passes via two sound cards which are likely to be operating on slightly different clock frequencies.
The path used had few dropouts due to packet loss, and the CW idents used on the nodes seemed to have no effect on the pictures.
Our next tests are with a group of VK2s Wednesday night.
