On Tuesday 17 March the members and friends from MDRC Tuesday morning group visited the Point Cook RAAF Museum.  The group is pictured with 4 RAAF Black Hawk helicopters in the background.  He had a very knowledgeable volunteer guide take us around the displays and answered all our questions.   Before returning we enjoyed the active flying display of a replica Sopworth Pup .  thanks to John Kirk for arranging the visit.

The Club activated our call sign VK3APC on Saturday the 17 Jan for the VHF UHF Summer Field day contest.   Gerard VK3GER, Ken VK3CEK, Lee VK3GK and Ian VK3IFM were in attendance.  We made some improvements on our first field day and a great day was had by all.  VK3XPD were operation at our location.  We paid then a visit and and checked out their setup.   Plenty of scope to improve our operations and looking forward .

Members of the Moorabbin and District Radio Club, Ron Cook and Leon Duturbure, step back in time with pieces of radio receiving equipment from World War II. It
is  believed that similar equipment may have been used at the secret wartime wireless receiving station in Chesterville Road during the war. If you are interested in joining the Moorabbin and District Radio Club or would like to find out more about it, phone Leon on 0408 557 693 or visit http://www.mdrc.org.au

Extract from the "Kingston Your City" of August 2008 Featuring two of our club members.

The earliest entry against Keith’s name was 17 May 1996 $50.00 for classes.

Keith became Treasurer in July 1999 As club treasurer and later was President from 2001 to 2003, Keith served with distinction. He was loyal, passionate, professional and a strategic thinker.

As President Keith always saw the bigger picture. What was good for amateur radio and he was respected within and outside the MDRC.

One of Keith’s outward looking MDRC initiatives was the APC News broadcast Keith co-established in 1999. APC News won instant acceptance with listeners and readership in the state and beyond.

APC News ran for four years. Keith wrote and presented 200 broadcasts involving over 100 hours of air time and 600 000 words. This required a professional level of commitment which will always be remembered.

Keith wrote was 'Ham Sandwich'. A product of Keith's perceptive mind and sharp wit, 'Old Man Ham Sandwich' caused many a laughter.

Other club activities Keith immersed himself included the Tuesday night meetings, crystal set competitions at the club's Hamfest, appearance on Southern FM Community Radio, promoting the Club at the St Kilda Hobby Show, ATV and more. More recently he has attended the MDRC's Tuesday morning meetings.

Keith served amateur radio well, being a member of the Moorabbin & District Radio Club, the Wireless Institute of Australia and the CW Operators QRP Club. He was a great friend to me. He will be missed.

Hamfest was very well attended this Year with Trading underway.   At the BBQ were Tony VK3CAT, CohenVK3FCLL, Mason VK3FMLL and Graeme VL3GL

  • We will go through the theory of operation and understand how the selected project works.
  • Acquire the material in the required quantizes.
  • Construct the project.   With the requires testing and calibration along the way.
  • You take home a piece of Amateur gear to use in your station.
